it's realy well drawn, very didactic ... but the heart muscles shouldn't be that large, it has no beating...

This was a a little pet project trying to define the inner workings of a vampire - how their anatomy has altered. The design held that they had evolved to a point where they no longer "drank" blood, but that their fangs were like suctions that pierced then drew in blood directly to the heart, which then distributed it throughout the body. The idea was that as they no longer fed as we think of, their organs such as the stomach and intestines no longer functioned. The heart was to be a sort of engine that drove them, but could be shut down when inactive - like sexual organs. - Make sense?

Thanks for the kind words are the artistic merit :)

the biology of fantastic creatures is something really interesting since we'll never have the oportunity to open a dead body or study the etology of a living (or undead) being... your theory reminds me the function of crocodiles stomach during an state of great activity (a pump that provides fast responses)... but I think that the power of the vampire lies in its neurologic system... if a mere human can be cured by placebo effect (o rly) a vampire with centuries of no-life has an extremely powerful mind that can move tissues, organs and glands... and there we have a problem with the need of blood... since the neurons function depends on the amount of glucose in the food... my guess is that new vampires are only humans that starts to feel different needs and with years, decades and centuries their whole biology changes... a vampire like dracula would be a new species in the Homo genus while a vampire with decades would be a subespecies of Homo sapiens.

What's leading into his fangs? nerves? ducts? can you explain how a vampires anatomy works?

This is part of a project that is told from the standpoint of an observer of vampires, and the observer is a bit like davinci in his approach to the study - sketching what he sees, speculating...

The idea I had was that an vampire's anatomy would alter the human anatomy over time - mutating it to something more hardwired for blood intake. In this image a stage 1, if you will, the vampire's main fangs are almost like conduits for blood being fed directly to it's own heart, and it's heart, containing more chambers than that of a human's, is geared to pull blood in like a suction, from the fangs.

Thanks! I have to give credit to da Vinci though, as his sketchbooks were much of the inspiration for doing these...

Oh god I did a still life that had a book open to the corresponding Da Vinci page one time, pain in the ass. This is a great rendition of it, fun study.
